Invest a six-hour day and you’ll be ready to tame the elephants that are blocking the path to your goals. You’ll use word portion control to improve the health of the productivity elephant, Too Much Time. You’ll cover the commonly mixed up words that are feeding Confused. You’ll connect with Stay Away and his friends.

writing feeds elephantsYou’ll find all that work writing you do is easier, faster and friendlier. You’ll see that more people are reading, remembering and responding to your emails, reports and other written communication.

During this interactive session, you’ll complete an assignment using three steps: (1) think about what to say, how to say it and who you’re saying it to (2) write like you talk and (3) make it shine, by focusing, tightening and applying advanced techniques such as storytelling to help readers remember and respond.

You complete a brief questionnaire introducing yourself, your main writing challenges and your objectives.

The client contact completes a brief questionnaire about learning requirements.

    Hour one: introduction

You talk about what you’re going to accomplish.

You discuss what works for you in conversation.

    Hour two: step 1, planning

You share who you most want to connect and how to convey in writing your personality, or the person or organization you’re writing for.

You summarize what you’re going to say and and best way to say it.

You capture all this in a few sentences.

Hour three: write like you talk

You read out loud your introductions, discussing with other participants how to make it more conversational and engaging.

You rewrite your introduction, based on what you’ve just learned.

    Hour four: just write

You complete the first draft of your assignment.

    Hour five: shine

You learn how to rewrite to  shorten, focus, fix common goofs as well as apply advanced techniques to help readers remember and respond.

    Hour six

You revise your assignment. You talk to other participants about what you learned and ask questions.
